WYC's elite, competitive a cappella ensemble.
WYCappella is designed for experienced, auditioned singers. Singers are mentors in WYC and must attend the majority of Monday rehearsals. Singers should have some experience in choral music and an interest in singing a cappella music. Singers will be challenged with more complex and challenging literature, including multivoicings. Detailed attention will be given to breath support, resonance, and techniques related to specific styles of music. Repertoire will be drawn from chant to contemporary classics (including some lesser known works) as well as musical theater and pop.
Input by singers will be welcomed and incorporated whenever possible. Singers will perform independently, learn to lead their sections during Monday rehearsals, and have opportunities to perform as soloists. They will also learn the basics of conducting. Striving for excellence in technique, developing meaningful expression, and discovering the essence of each piece are the goals in all our music making.
Our commitment to a loving environment of mutual respect and support leads to raised self-esteem and confidence. It is our hope that our singers will learn to share now, and in their future, their songs, gifts, and selves within their communities and beyond.
